Unrest in Syria is on the rise, the government's response is gunfire. If there were ever a worthwhile target for unrest and overthrown it is the Assad family enterprise. Despite the grovelling approach of the Resident's Administration and the antics of (then) Speaker Pelosi the Assad regime has been a constant problem. Syria supplies the murderous thugs of Hezzbollah with weapons, training and strategic depth, they were the main transit point for suicide bombers heading into Iraq, they act as Iran's stooge for fomenting trouble with Israel and have been treating Lebanon as a province for the last twenty years. This is the same Syria that was building an atomic reactor on the sly a few years ago and, when it was bombed by the Israelis, they quietly erased the entire project and all the associated buildings.
If there is any place in the MENA that we should be intervening it is Syria. I am certain that we would have to await a UN Security Council resolution before we contemplate acting (even thought the Resident just explained that he doesn't need the formality of a Congressional approval to act, we would still have to get the thumbs-up from the thugs on Turtle Bay). Assad truly deserves a good kick in the teeth. Too bad the Empty Suit in the White House doesn't have the balls.
