Doing it the right way

The AP reports that Indian Navy and Coast Guard have engaged and, in a three-hour battle, captured sixteen Somali pirates as well as sinking their hijacked vessel (an Iranian trawler) and rescuing the trawler's crew. This brings the total of pirates captured by the Indians to over 120 this year. It seems that the pirates were using a hijacked trawler as a base to attack other ships and were caught in the act by the swift response of the Indians to a call for help. The Indians chased the smaller boats back to the trawler and sunk it (apprently as there is no mention of recovering the trawler after it caught fire due to Indian gunfire). I assume they also sank the smaller vessles as well.

Here is a hearty Huzzah! to the Indians for having the balls to ACTUALLY shoot at pirates, well done indeed.

Odd, isn't it, that the much more advanced (but, lamentably, far more PC) US, UK and French navies have not had similar success. I am left wonder if it because the Indians will (gasp!) actually hang the bastards and we are reticent about such manly action, or if the Indians are actually better at this stuff than we are.

I have heard that the pirates captured and brought to the UK would have all sorts of silly rights.
I am afraid that the same applies to US forces, the French (at least in the past) were capable of independent action but recently seem to have been subsumed into the EU mindest that the pirates are some sort of disadvantaged class rather than sea-borne criminals.

Ahh, for the days when they would just be hung from the yard-arm as they deserved.
